Meiji period Myoan nobekan 2.1 $2200. 373g. Tuned between C and B. A lovely old flute with beautifully finished urushi bindings. It is signed but the maker is unknown. This is a very capable instrument. The upper third octave (Re dai kan etc.) are all unusually easy and the intonation is excellent. Warm sounding, typical for the period. It has beautiful patina, showing its long life, with some repairs, and in excellent condition. The bore is original. A perfect instrument for playing period music, like honkyoku, but this flute is capable enough to play contemporary and ensemble music too. >>home
